I know this is tiny but it came to me as an attachment to an email. Yesterday was Amelia's first day at school and she had a trial bus run the day before....Reid is in the yellow boots and Amelia is right next to the bus driver.......she is excited and enjoyed her first day but it was tough waking her up at 7am this morning........

The airplane has been such a wonderful tool to get us into higher areas in the mountains. Though sheep hunting is never easy...it was more accessible on this hunt for sure. We are happy to be able to do what we do with the plane. This is a beautiful animal. Lance will be able to sell the cape of the sheep for about $400 to a taxidermist and that will pay for the avgas used to get into sheep country.

Before and after Lance shot his sheep he had some great opportunities for viewing them. He was able to get within 30 yards of some of the sheep. They are such majestic animals and live in some amazing terrain. We are happy to be able to harvest and enjoy the meat from this Ram. As far as we are concerned, sheep meat is the best tasting of Alaska's game animals.

We had a wonderful time as a family on our last adventure. WE had tried a couple times to fly out but the wind was too bad so we were happy to finally land in camp and spend three days hanging out and enjoying the country. The second morning I harvested a small bull caribou and we spent the next day and a half laying around camp, napping and waiting for the wind to die down so we could safely fly home again. Luckily there was a meat pole in camp for hanging the meat. The "airstrip" we landed on is the gravel looking part to the right of the plane...it was on a ridge and got really windy at night....we were camped down below in the brush. Amelia was a really big help getting camp hauled down the hill and set up and then again hauling it back uphill to the airplane. She hauled the antlers up for us too......soon she will be packing meat!

Our tent held up really well in the massive winds and some rain that we had. The wind blew harder than Lance has ever seen while the plane has been in a camp somewhere. We were really worried about it flying away without us but had it tied down reallywell. We got up several times in the night to check on it and finally when it calmed down at 5:30 am is when he went out to check and saw the caribou that I ended up shooting about 700 yards from camp. We woke the kids up at 6am and they luckily were willing to get dressed and be sneaky. They were perched beside me when I shot and got to see the action........

We expected to pick blueberries while we were hanging out in camp but much to our surprise there weren't any! This was the north side of the mountain range and much warmer and more dry so maybe that's the reason. We did manage to find a few cranberries for our pancakes though. The camo-clad hunters and berry pickers pose for a quick shot......The scenery is so beautiful that the photo of Amelia looks like it was superimposed into a fake scenery.....stunning!

One of my favorite parts of these hunting adventures is hanging out for hours and watching what is around you.....we were spotting about 25 sheep and several caribou cows and a couple really big moose......the kids enjoyed looking through the spotting scope and using their binoculars. Keeping them quiet was kind of tough.....we didn't want to scare any potential harvest bulls away!

What a fun time.... Here is the little bull that I shot with my .270 that my good friend Ken Curtis gave me a few years ago. This is the second Caribou that I have got with it.....Amelia was 7 months old on the last one. The meat is in the freezer!

We crammed in the plane and all flew out to a special fishing spot of ours. It was a beautiful day but when we landed and started unpacking the plane we realised we forgot the fishing poles! so.....Lance fashioned one out of a willow stick and away we went.....

pretty fun day! notice the Nenana glacier in the background...beautiful! The fishing hole is just a quick walk from where we can land on the gravel bar....Amelia proud that she can wash and stick the fish on the stringer! Lance showing them how to "bonk" the fish on the head with a rock...didn't take them long to catch on to that one!

It got hot while we were fishing so Amelia stripped to her undies to fish..... Here, you can see it takes two to use the long home made fishing pole. We used a willow stick, some string and fishing line.... It proved itself ...look at this catch of grayling!
