Another fun thing we did this weekend was have the kids go mushing with Rachel. We met her across the road from the house and the kids were able to ride in the basket and on the runners up the Nenana river. Rachel has been mushing her own team of 5 dogs this winter. Her dad rides the snowmachine in front of the team to pace them and check the trail and Rachel runs along behind with the dogs. Lance and I followed for a ways on our machines and then headed back to the house with Reid while Amelia continued on up the river with Al and Rachel. They had lots of fun!!! Rachel also has 5 new puppies that are now 6 months old that she will be training for next year. It's cool for the kids to see another Alaskan sport. Amelia wants sled dogs but I told her she already has them......they just live at Rachel's house!!!
Spring Rhondy was so much fun in Cantwell......so much fun that I really didn't take many photos. This was the best one of Amelia giving Jaydyn a ride on the little Kitty Cat snowmachine. Jaydyn is the sweet little girl that I watch on Fridays.......
Reid with all his hockey gear on......this is how smoothe the ice looked before the little skiff of snow we got.....

In February the weather warmed up and it caused water to flow on top of the river ice.....kind of like the river was overflowing. (which is why it's call "overflow"!) You couldn't go anywhere behind the house because there was several inches of "slush". The temps got cold again and the water froze and that made for a great place to skate......This was this past weekend. It snowed just a tad the night before but it didn't mess up the ice! Right behind the house we met up with some friends for skating and hockey.....Reid is really into skating and he will probably join the little team in Healy next year.

Yesterday we took Reid on a 4 hour snowmachine ride while Amelia was in school. We went up the Nenana River and climbed up high on a bench that proved to be a great place to find caribou antlers. I found 6 out of the 7 sheds and Reid really had a great time. We saw quite a few caribou and some ptarmigan. Sometimes the anlers are really hard to see...just a little bit sticking up above the snow as in this last photo.

Lance and Reid were goofing around and found this beaver dam to ride up on top of....Reid thought it was pretty cool and then kept running up to the top and sliding down.
We were on top of a ridge with our home in the background somewhere down there against the base of those mountains! when the wind isn't blowing.....what a beautiful spot to live!!
Reid and I on the Jack River below our house. The ice is perfect for skating!
